Comments: I’m diggin’ this lineup and thinking something in the 3:37-8 range will come out of it. Almost a Stanford v Wisconsin dual with Blankenship, Masters and the unattached O’Hare thrown in there.

Predicted winning time: 3:38.2

13 311 Patrick Todd Oregon

Comments: Rob Finnerty has the fastest life time best of the group but even as a Wisconsin fan I can’t say he’ll win this. Alex Hatz has a better chance at doing that. Julian Matthews and Jose Juan Esparza of Mexico each bring in 3:40s to their name. Those are the two to beat but watchout for Chris Fallon and Patrick Todd. Darkhorse is Hatz.

Predicted winning time: 3:40.5

10 288 Graham Crawford North Carolina

Comments: Minnesota’s Nick Hutton has the best of the bunch with a 3:43.16. He also has 1:48 speed but that was from last year. Though he’s only run 1:51.51 this year he did beat Iowa’s Ryan Weir in that outing (Iowa Mustco) who has been under 1:50 several times this year. NC State frosh Graham Crawford, the ACC third place finisher last week, could have a breakout race here.

Predicted winning time: 3:44.0

Comments: Dylan Ferris would be the favorite on paper given his lifetime best is 3:40.07 but the Dylan Ferris of today is much different than the Dylan Ferris of yesterday. He looks bigger and has only run 3:58 this season. Former Washington Husky Tully-Doyle Colton has a lifetime best of 3:46.78 and freshman Yves Sikubwabo of Guelph ran 3:50.38 as a junior in high school. Dawson Vorderbruegge, Tyler Valdes and Kenny Krotzer will also be in this mix.

Predicted winning time: 3:46.4

#2

I had a strong feeling about Wheating breaking through here in 2008 and I feel this is where we will see Austin Mudd break through. I could be full of it, but I think Mudd is going to be down at 3:38 or below tonight.

#3

I’ve spoken with a few of the Wisconsin alums the past two days and this seems to be the consensus. The guys on the team say he’s “jacked” physically and that definitely shows at the end of his races. He’ll have his former teammates there to relax the situation for him. Chris O’Hare is in it and probably ‘needs’ to perform in order to obtain future affiliations. And then the OTC guys. Pace will be hot and you’re right, Austin could really shine if things go his way.

#4

Fast heat looks to be good. I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be Mudd, Brown, O’Hare, Masters up front, and Mudd’s got the best finish of those. Brown is probably the current best of those four, but he’s early in his season and these collegians are ready to roll.

Predicted finish: Mudd, Brown, O’Hare, Masters. Mudd and Brown around 3:37 high/3:38 low, Masters and O’Hare ~3:38 mid.

#5

dont forget about ingebritsen, he was 5th in london last year and is the euro champ.

#6

QFE I think he will win.

#7

I saw him, but I think he’s looking to have a good summer so he probably won’t be too sharp right now. No offense to Norweigians, but the Norweigian scene isn’t as competitive as the US scene, so I doubt Ingebritsen has to be ready for (or even show up to) his national chamionships/trials, if there even are any. The Americans, on the other hand, usually look for a peak at USAs because our team is pretty tough to make. So I’d expect the Americans (even the collegians) to be sharper than Ingebritsen.

#8

Nick Hutton senior out of apple valley, mn 3:42.73 in section three. PR and great time. All time gopher top ten? Has to be.

#9

Doesn’t need it’s own thread but solid 1:46.47 for Brandon Johnson at the meet. Second place was 1:47.28.

Johnson’s first year as an 800 runner was last year with the bulk of his career dedicated to the 400 hurdles where he had 3 years between 2004 and 2008 where he broke 49 flat and one year with a best of 49.02.

His best last year was 1:46.23.

He isn’t a spring chicken anymore, having been born in '85 but with that kind of speed he’s an interesting one to watch.

#10

emma coburn wins the steeple in 9:28 after running 4:11 at Drake on Friday. Neither was a PR performance (9:23 and 4:09 respectively), but two very solid performances considering the travel between them.

#11

She did an American tour this week. Great results.

Got the Mudd pick wrong.

without seeing the video im going to guess he got tangled up and ate the track sometime on the 3rd lap.

#16

Well I definitely did not call that race. I got the Masters/O’Hare times about right, but the placings and Mudd/Brown all wrong.

#17

That’s why they run them! I think we all saw the potential of the field. What surprised me was the second heat dipping under 3:40.

http://www.rtspt.com/events/stanford/pjc13/130428F009.htm

On the Wisconsin sidelines we don’t know who is better between Mudd and Hatz. Both come up big at different times. Apparently not Mudd’s day today but Hatz had the right race to set him up.

Josh Spiker of Ventura, CA, 4:05 mile ace in high school now off the list.

from a random frenchie too. Last year it was aarrass (sp?), this year smail. Where do these guys come from and who is their chemist?

#20

Tough crowd tonight. When we start looking at the chemists for a 13:26 …

This is an odd dude though. He does have an iaaf profile: http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/france/noureddine-smail-204452#progression

But … it is strange.

It lists everything from a 1:54.56 800m personal best from 2004 (still his best) to a 1.65 high jump personal best (about 5’ 4"). This guy is not a steady performer at all but he had at least twice run in the 13:30s before (in 2008 and 2010) and his most impressive PR is a 8:22 steeple from 2010.

The site lists no times for him in all of 2011 and indoor performances of 7:59 for 3000 and 3:45 for 1500 in 2012. He ran 8:33 outdoors for the steeple last year as well.

Of all the bests listed for him the only thing on par with it really is the steeple best. I suppose drugs are as likely as any explanation. Born in '87 … could still be improving especially if injuries have been an issue.
