#2

few thoughts on d3…1. who is Wensink!!! Sounds good. 2. Are you forgetting Zander? I believe that he is at least better than ohnstad isn’t he? But yes, pending good weather, this should be a fantastic d3 boys meet!

#3
  1. Wensink is a senior from ootsburg who has been getting consistently lower and lower into the 16s all season, running 16:15 a few weeks ago.
  2. I completely forgot about Zander somehow, the predictions are fixed now tho

#4

Diffee, Nameth and Hrycay raced each other twice in the last five days.

At the Big 8 meet, it was Diffee (1) 15:53, Nameth (2) 16:02, OHacker (3) 16:09, Hrycay (5) 16:18.

At the Sectional, it was Diffee (1) 15:52, Nameth (2) 15:56, Hrycay (3) 16:04, with Nameth setting the pace and leading into the last K, with Hrycay falling off around 4K or so.

I have no idea where any of them fit in with the rest of the State.

#5

Certainly not a state power, but hats off to the Thunderbirds in making a return trip to D1 State (13th in 2011) Unranked and unheralded all year, the T-Birds have only been beaten by Madison West, SPASH, Craig, Port (2pts), LaFollette, and WI Lutheran. They have beaten Marquette (3pts), Brookfield East, Tosa East and D2 powers Monroe and Dodge-Point. They out dueled a highly regarded Oconomowoc at Sectionals to earn the state berth.

Not predicting a Top 10 finish but are definitely worthy of being in the state field.

#6

1 Shorewood, WISCO (too close to call)
3 Freedom (should separate from the rest but watch out for Monroe)
4 Monroe (Moehn has been back for two weeks but newcommer Hirshbrunner is where Moehn should be when healthy)
5 Valders (if Evans runs smart from the gun Valders could hang with Monroe)
6 DMP (nearly got caught by NGM on Saturday. Not a team to hold back at the end.)
7 Aquinas (has Christianson contending and a good #2. 3-5 guys will determine if they are a top 5 team or top 10 team)
8 Northwestern-Maple (this is the big move of the week. Frontrunner Lind allows NWM to run with teams like Jefferson, DMP and Valders)
9 Jefferson (originally one of my top 6 teams. Youth, newcommers and unfamiliar position makes this team difficult to predict)
10 Little Chute (perennial participant with the ability to go as high as 6th)
11 Waupun (underrated front runner Klapper has not been afraid to run with Bilitz. Expect a stronger 2-5 to overwhelm some teams you wouldn’t expect)
12 Turner (not a suprise to “be there” hung with Jefferson on Friday and has been running well as of late)
13 Notre Dame (no clear front runner, similar to Mauston except top 5 are slightly faster)
14 Winnebago Luth Academy (Bilitz should be a top 6 team scorer but 3-5 gap is way too large to run with mid-tier teams)
15 Mauston (like Notre Dame, no strong front runners. Could move up as high as 12th)
16th Ashland (barely made the meet far behind NW-Maple. After Miller over a 90 second gap with a #5 in the 19minute range)

Autoqualifiers (if we had them) teams that could have ran well at state (top 10) if they’d advanced from the more difficult sectionals
New Berlin West, Grafton, NGM, Two Rivers

#7
  1. Madison West
  2. Stevens Point
  3. Arrowhead
  4. Madison La Follette
  5. LaCrosse Logan
  6. West Bend West
  7. Waukesha South
  8. Eau Claire Memorial
  9. Janesville Craig
  10. Waukesha North
  11. Marquette
  12. Baraboo
  13. Westosha Central
  14. Oshkosh West
  15. Franklin
  16. West Allis Hale
  17. Wausau East
  18. Sheboygan North
  19. Green Bay East
  20. Kimberly

#8

After running against Freedom and Shorewood in separate meets, I feel that Freedom has a better chance at winning state than Shorewood. Freedom has a really strong top 5.

#14

D3

  1. Kevin Ryan - There is no indication that anyone is likely to beat him.
  2. Miehe
3-4. Lau/Versweyveld - No way for me to tell between these two - both look strong.
  3. Zander - Lau just whipped Zander on the third mile at the Fall Creek sectional, Zander has only beaten him once ever.
  4. Studinski - maybe he’ll surprise but doesn’t seem to have gotten any better all year.

#15

I agree with all of these predictions except I don’t know how you got WLA to be 5th. I know the two Bilitz brothers are strong, but they have no strong 5th runner.

#16

I haven’t done this in awhile so this should be interesting. I’m pretty confident in my predictions though.
D1

  1. Chandler Diffee-MLF-If this was track, it would be different. I think he owns The Ridges.

  2. Ryan Kromer-Hudson-He’s such a tough runner that the Ridges fits his style.

  3. Armando Torres-Green Bay East-My upset pick. He’s been a beast all-season. Hard to decide between him and Ramos.

  4. Carl Hirsch-Brookfield Central-If he would have dominated Griak, I’d say he was unbeatable. But we’ve seen that he is not.

  5. Michael Larson-Stevens Point-He’s healthy and rolling. I don’t think he’ll hold back.

  6. Taylor Floyd-Mews-Wauwatosa West-Really flying under the radar and overshadowed by Campbell. But he’s shown that he can win.

  7. McKena Ramos-Sheboygan South-He’ll just miss the podium, but he’ll go for the win.

  8. Jake Dubnicka-Arrowhead-He’ll close hard but miss the podium.

  9. Spencer Hrycay-Janesville Craig-He’ll go for the win but fade.

  10. Ryan Nameth-Verona-He’ll run a gutsy race.

  11. Stevens Point-They’ll win by no more than 10.

  12. Arrowhead-Close, but not this year.

  13. La Crosse Logan-They’ll come on strong again, but just miss Arrowhead.

  14. Madison La Follette-They’ll go for it, but fall apart towards the end.

  15. Madison West-Same as MLF.

  16. Marquette-They will sneak in here.

  17. Waukesha South-They are not a healthy team, so if they finish this high that would be a big accomplishment.

  18. West Bend West-I’m not confident in this team, but they should finish here.

  19. Westosha Central-Same as WBW.
10.Janesville Craig-If they run as aggressively as they did last year at State, then this is the best they can finish.

  20. Eau Claire Memorial

  21. Waukesha North

  22. Oshkosh West

  23. Baraboo

  24. West Allis Hale

  25. Franklin

  26. Green Bay East

  27. Kimberly

  28. Wausau East

  29. Sheboygan North

D2

  1. Ryan McCoy-New Glarus Monticello-No one will be close.
2.Michael Christianson-La Crosse Aquinas-Too talented to lose to anyone but McCoy.
  2. Eric Brown-Wisconsin Luthern-He’s more than a mid-distance guy.
  3. Trevor Wunnicke-Dodgeville-Mineral Point-Tough runner, I wouldn’t expect anything less.
  4. Charlie Stahl-Shorewood-He’ll run strong for his team.
  5. Brett Harms-Whitewater-Has had a great season and should be able to finish here.

1.Shorewood-They’ll win by 5.
2. Wisconsin Lutheran-Close, but not this year.
3. Freedom
4. Monroe
5. Jefferson

D3

  1. Tyson Miehe-Darlington-He’s defending champ. He’ll win again.
  2. Luke Verswyveld-Kenosha Christian Life/Faith Christian-Upset pick. He’s lost to Ryan all season, but not here.
  3. Kevin Ryan-Kenosha St. Joseph-He’ll battle for the win, but just fade.
  4. Darin Lau-Eau Claire Immanuel Luthern-I think he could finish higher, but this would be great for him.
  5. Nick Zander-McDonnell Central
  6. Andrew Studinski-Marathon

I don’t know enough about the D3 teams to comment. There should be some good races this weekend and remember, the things you don’t expect to happen always happen at State.

#17

Not saying Floyd-Mewes wont come in 6th, he is a very talented runner. But his one victory was a race Patrick Campbell didnt run in and has finished 2nd to him by a 10-20 second average nearly every race. So your saying he is going to beat Campbell at state and Campbell isnt going to be in top ten? Watched the sectional race and Campbell was a beast and Floyd-Mewes was 3rd. Anything can happen at State, just making sure you didnt forget to insert Campbell in top 5.

No disrespect, but you know the guy Hirsch lost to at Griak is an 8:51 2 miler, 4:10 miler, and 14:27 5k guy on the track. He’s also ranked 4th in the country according to USA XC Rankings. Hirsch is beatable…on the national level. I’m all for upsets, but to say that Hirsch will lose to three guys from Wisconsin might be a bit of a stretch.

#19

Division 1 Individuals

  1. Chandler Diffee – La Follette
  2. Ryan Kromer – Hudson
  3. Carl Hirsch – Brookfield Central
  4. Patrick Campbell - Wauwatosa West
  5. Nate Gomoll - Whitefish Bay

Team Top 3

  1. Spash
  2. La Crosse Logan
  3. Arrowhead

I feel the top 3 individuals will be together until the final turn before the finish straight, I feel Diffee has been laying in the weeds, and think Kromer is a state champion any other year. And Carl might lose some concentration down last straight and give up a spot to kromer. If Hirsch dosent win it is because he might be peaking for late November.

#20

Nope. I definitely did not mean to put Campbell in the top 10. You didn’t have to quote my entire post in order to ask your simple question.
