Nike Cross Regional - Heartland 2016

Our team is going to SD to run NXR Heartland on November 13. It is our school’s first time going.

Any tips or advice for first timers?

The course is polar opposite of Footlocker MW. It is spectator friendly but not a true cross country course. You can plop a chair down in the center of the complex and watch most of the race develop. It is 2.5 laps around a soccer complex with a few manmade hills. Runners need to get out hard if they are planning to be competitive because the course is tight and completely staked and roped to the point of being dangerous for runners who get squeezed at a corner. Times are quite fast for the frontrunners but results in average times for the mid-pack runners due to congestion. Minnesota typically produces nationally ranked teams who always compete well at this meet. The meet is well organized and everything stays on schedule.
