Marquette Invite: Erschen 9:19, Drews 9:25
Does this make them the respective favorites for D1 and D2 at state?

Also, does anyone know where to find full results from this meet?

#4

Erschen is looking strong but don’t count Paulson out yet. He just ran another fast mile (4:23.84) at Badger yesterday. I think it’s going to come down between those two. I wonder what both of them will end up running at the State Meet and how that will affect their 3200 times down in La Crosse.

Full Results

Yeah, Erschen and Paulson are certainly the favorites right now, with Heck close behind. Wardall would be right there as well, but I am not expecting him to run it at state. I’m assuming he would do 1600, 800, and 4x8, but I have no info to base that off of.

#6

I’m going to have to agree with that. It would be too difficult to try to run all four distance events. I think that one of the last people to consider that might have been Perkins though I’m not 100% sure if I remember correct. Regardless of who it was, all I know is that it didn’t work out and it’s probably not a good idea to try it.

I doubt he’s thinking about running four events seeings how you’re only allowed to run three track events. Perkins WAS the last one to try for the distance triple. He went for it his sophomore year and didn’t win any of them. His junior year he just went for the 800 and 1600 and got them both. Gabe Jennings was the last (and first) to win the 8, 16 and 32.

@runasone. I agree. 800 1600 for sure and with the 8:00.7 Appleton East already ran, Wardall running the 4x8 would make a lot of sense, but we’ll see.

Gabe Jennings was the last (and first) to win the 8, 16 and 32.

Was that when Jennings set the mile record?

#9

Jennings won the 800m 1600m and 3200m his junior year (1995).Jennings won the 1600 m with a time of 4:04.97 his senior year, setting the state record, and at the Prefontaine Classic he ran a Mile time of 4:02.81, the fastest prep Mile in 23 years. He set the record his senior year. source: wikipedia

So I was looking at the all-time list on Wissports.net and it says that Gabe Jennings ran a 4:01.3 at the Prefontaine Classic.

You know something is very wrong when you have to pick between Wikipedia and Wissports for which one is more credible source…

Edit: I went on Wisconsintrackandfield.com and it said that Jennings ran a 4:01.30 at the Prefontaine Classic. I guess Wissports wins this one…

#11

Actually, wikipedia is arguably correct and Loading... are arguably wrong.

Jennings ran 4:02.81 for the full mile at the Prefontaine Classic in 1997.

According to google, 1 Mile = 1609.344 meters

1600m/1609.344 = .99419390757973435138789469498131

4:02.81 = 242.81 seconds

242.81 seconds * .99419390757973435138789469498131 = 241.40 = 4:01.40y

And, if you do it this way 242.81 * .9942 = 241.401702 or 4:01.40y.

Unless of course Gabe was clocked at 4:01.30 at the 1600m mark in the race. I’ve seen prestigious races with more than one camera set up.

#12

So the 4:01.3 is based on calculations then? I can see the 4:02.81 being the more legit answer because he could have easily sped up or slowed down those last 9.344 meters. The only way we could ever know is to watch the video of the race and to time it out ourselves. Which, of course, is impossible unless someone can has one and wants to post it up.

Well, as I was looking for the 1997 Prefontaine Classic I did come across this sweet video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVUO2Gd6Mxw . It’s cool to see some Wisconsin State track history

Word is that Gabe Genovesi went 1:51.3 with no competition at a small quad meet. That would put him at 7th in the country based on Dyestat’s lists.

I’ve also heard that he split a 47 in a 4x4. Not sure if this was at the same meet, and I don’t know how reliable this source is because it was secondhand.

What are the chances that he takes down Perkin’s state record by the end of the year?
