33.05 breaks William Reed’s record from all the way back in 1986.

Cherry ran 46.37 outdoors last year.

He had already run 1:03.13 for 500m FTW prior to the 300m. He then anchored his 4x400m with a 46.5 split FTW. On a flat 200m track.

One of the best high school triples of all time?

1:03.13 would make him number 7 all time (funnily enough only .10 behind Reed’s number 6 performance from 1986 as well).

Reed ran 46.84 for the 400 that same season which places him at number 5 all time.

So he ran a NR, a 7th best all time and a blazing 400 leg. Pretty darn impressive all right. Hopefully he can get in a fast 400 later this season.

I have to say yes. Reggie Witherspoon ran 46.11, 21.0? and split 46.x back in 2003.

Reed was a beast. When he set the national record he ran a 34.16 trials, 33.19 and split 46.8. Would be interested to compare Cherry’s outdoor times to Reed’s. There have been a number of athletes that run super fast indoor, but almost none are faster then Reed come outdoor.

I watched Reed run at Yale’s Cox Cage in early 1987. Have never seen such a performance (before or since) on a flat track. He looked like a train.

Note: George Kersh won the 800 that same day (somewhere around 1:51.2)

Cherry will be at NBNI Mar 8-10:)
