Day 2 blog from Old Bridge

Cherokee soph Jess Woodard just threw 141-3 on her second attempt in the G4 discus.

Best throw in NJ this year and breaks Deanne Hahn’s state soph record (141-1, 2006)

Jess threw 44-7 3/4 on her final throw in the shot Friday

Some monster matchups coming Thursday, if hunches are correct:

-Girls 800: Wilson, McNamara, Veidis is pretty good.
-Girls 1600: Resurgent DiSomma defending her frosh title, taking on senior Amaral great career still without MoC win, and others.
-Boys 800: Rono, Paternostro, Veras Admirand (where is he going to school?), Byrne, Eke, Malone, and so on.
-Boys 1600: Rono, Ball, Lewandowski, Kelly.
-Boys 3200: Both Rosa’s hopefully, Elkaim, Pearson, many other already 9:0something guys.

five under 11 in the G4 3,200?

heck of a two days for Dina Iacona … 4:55 and now 10:42 … that’s a 19-second PR

and 9:11 gets you 6th in G4 3200?

The improvement in depth is unbelievable. 5 years ago we had Jeff Perrella go 4:18/9:18 to wire the field in both events. This weekend we had Andrew Kirna go 4:15/9:18 for fourth and TENTH.

The bar just keeps going up. There’s great stuff happening.

so it looks like going into the 4-by-4 it was:

East Brunswick 43
Trenton 43
Old Bridge 40
Oakcrest 40

and all had run 3:22 or faster this year

Then Oakcrest wins the 4-by-4 in 3:16 and Cherry Hill East got in front of East Brunswick for second (3:18.65), with East Brunswick third (3:19, Old Bridge fourth (3:20) and Trenton fifth (3:21)

four teams in the running for the team title going into the final event and all four ran season-best 4x4 times

truly great action

Great run by Khari Bowen dropping a 9:07. Previous best was 9:18 2 mile at NBIN.

Actually Long Jump was last event in Group 4 (about 30 minutes after relay)
Oakcrest kid wins to give Them win by a point over East Brunswick. EB kid is 6th after trials, thinks he didn’t make finals and leaves – finishes 7th:eek:

four great races by olivia baker. hope she isn’t going to be running quads regularly. her 800 was most impressive. how many frosh have enough confidence in their own ability to go out in last place after the first quarter and then calmly reel in and pass everyone else and win convincingly?
are the rosas really running the two mile on thursday and then running the dream mile on saturday after the doubles they ran this weekend???
molly macnamara solos a 4:44 and 2:09 then says she may run two relays and an individual race on thursday, then the dream mile on saturday???
the boys 800 with rono, paternostro and veres might be a race for the ages.
pearson really came back strong inthe 3200 after being caught in the last 50 meters yesterday in the 1600. he pushed the pace right from the gun and looked strong the whole way today.
he looked great as did elkiam who was pretty close to 2:00 in his last 800. if these two and the rosas really push the two mile there could be four under 8:55. new jersey’s depth is stunning.
oakcrest looked very powerful in the relay. lots of good stuff to look forward to on thursday.

thanks for the clarification, Paul

hard to believe the E.B. kid did that. that’s almost like … leaving your computer at home when you go to the state track championships!

Who would do something dumb like that?

P.S. IHA wins Non-Public A coming from behind and my new favorite kid Caroline Morano got a PR in the 800 – who says no good deed goes unpunished?
