Cross Country 2018 Predictions

Top 5 Teams:

  1. Wayzata
  2. Stillwater
  3. Edina
  4. Mounds View
  5. Red Wing

Acer Iverson.

There, I said it.

The guy came back after a winter bike accident and ran 9:13 and 4:17. Imagine if he had been healthy the whole winter and spring after his last XC season.

That is correct – I saw him all scraped up a couple days after the accident and still run a 4:32. His parents filled me in what happened and he was fortunate that he wasn’t hurt much worse.

Here are the AA boys teams I currently think will make it to state this year

1AA - Red Wing/Winona
2AA - Willmar/Buffalo
3AA - Rosemount/East Ridge
4AA - Stillwater/White Bear Lake
5AA - Mounds View/Maple Grove
6AA - Wayzata/Edina
7AA - Forest Lake/Cloquet
8AA - Sartell/Moorhead

Have to go with Max Manley for the guys in aa and Emily Covert for the girls aa

Agree for the most part. I love the race in 4aa, any of the top 4 could make it. Minnetonka could be lurking in the right spot again to challenge Edina, or more likely Wayzata.

1AA - Red Wing/Winona
2AA - Willmar/Buffalo
3AA - Rosemount/East Ridge
4AA - Stillwater/Roseville or Central
5AA - Mounds View/STMA
6AA - Wayzata/Edina
7AA - Forest Lake/Cloquet (East?)
8AA - Moorhead/Bemidji

Inside info on Forest Lake: Their projected #2/3 runner tore up his ACL in lacrosse back in May, he’s out for the season. Considering that 4 of their top 7 graduated this past spring, the younger runners will really need to step up their game if they’re going to make it out of 7AA.

Andy Richardson (Irondale grad with a 4:10 to his resume) takes over as a head coach, so it’s going to be a season in flux for FL.

Don’t sleep on White Bear. Two of their sophomores got sick at the end of the season and they would’ve been 16:20 at the slowest.

Wayzata and Edina are returning faster top 5 5k PRs than Minnetonka is, so it will be very difficult for Minnetonka to beat these teams this year.

Good news is Minnetonka will be much younger than Edina and Wayzata this year (perhaps only 1 senior in the top 7) so during the 2019 season they will have a good chance to make it to state.

Emily Covert wins the St. Olaf Showcase in a blistering 17:07.9. Wolfgram in 2nd, 20.4 seconds back.

Caleb Haugland wins the boy’s race in 15:53.8.

Caleb won… 15:53

Hoeft was third

Yes, initially they had Hoeft in first and then everything adjusted. Seems they were having some issues with their timing/reporting software. Team placement switched around quite a bit, too.

Stewartville Invitational - Grace Ping 1st, Lauren Ping 2nd. Cotter Girls win by a huge margin

Irish invitational boys:
Iverson goes back to back. Labatte 2nd like in this race last year.
EP wins with only 1 senior in their top 5. They will have a good chance to make it out of 6AA next year.

St Paul Highland Park was 2nd, and Farmington was 3rd. Great improvement from the previous years for these teams and each have only 1 senior in the top 5 also.

Irish invitational girls:
Lauren Peterson wins, Anna Fenske 5th. Farmington has another Fenske in their top 7 now.

Stillwater wins with 3 8th graders in their top 4.

Marshfield Invitational results:

Very close race between Wayzata and Stillwater.
